The operation, aimed at countering international drug trafficking in one of the ports of the coastal city of Guayaquil, was executed last Tuesday, according to a statement released by the Police on Thursday.

The police inspected a container of export bananas destined for Italy. With the help of an anti-drug dog, it was able to detect in the product boxes a total of 2,366 wrappings containing a whitish substance, which was cocaine, according to technical tests.

The total amount of cocaine seized is equivalent to 1,244,440 million doses, according to the Police.

The text reads,
Nearly 400 kilos of cocaine were seized by the National Police of Ecuador in the María Auxiliadora sector, in Manta (Manabí), which were in a drug collection center. Four people were arrested.

According to Ecuadorian anti-drug forces, all those involved in this shipment were Ecuadorians, all with contacts from Colombia and Peru, countries with the largest cocaine export in the world.

In recent years Ecuador has become a key point in the global traffic of this drug, as the mafias take advantage of its ports and coasts to send tons of that drug to Europe and North America.

Ecuador is also the third country in the world that seizes more drugs behind Colombia and the United States, as it has exceeded 200 tons of narcotic substances seized annually in the last three years.
